The Heart Research Institute is a financially autonomous non-profit medical research institute; a national facility with an international reputation where scientists are focused on prevention, detection and cure of Atherosclerosis, hardening and thickening of the arteries, the major cause of heart disease. Whilst there are many causes of heart disease, the most significant is atherosclerosis – the thickening of blood vessels and build up of fatty plaques within them. It causes heart attack, angina, stroke and other disease, which together claim nearly 50,000 lives in Australia per year – more than cancer, AIDS and motor accidents combined.
Heart disease touches our family, our friends, our community. By supporting The Heart Research Institute you can be confident in the knowledge that in so doing you are making a wonderful contribution to The Heart Research Institute, and to humanity at large.
